Maakwa breaks the long drought for trainer Shana Lopez and team at Woodbine racetrack.

The horse runs in good company and always looks like he could win when ever he shows up on race day. With knowing that, I didn't realized that Maakwa hadn't won a race in 2023. Maakwa ended that spell on Sunday June 23rd in the 9th race at Woodbine racetrack in outstanding running form from start to the end. Ridden to victory by jockey Jose Campos, this win gave Jose Campos his eight win for the year.

It was all smiles from ear to ear in the Lopez barn because it was also Shana's first win for the year. What a rewarding horse this one must be for Shana Lopez because it has been the top earner for the Lopez barn making over $200,000 from 36 starts so far. This was a great win for Maakwa and also Shana Lopez after stretching out for the second time this year and displaying speed he is known to have. It wasn't Maakwa's highest speed figure recorded as 87 but with the hands of Campos, they were able to control the pace and take it all the way to the finish line.
